Looks Get Hooks! Customize Your Car For CHEAP!
When I got my first car, I had so many ideas to revamp this old Prius thing. And let me say, it did turn out cozy, unique, and nicer than expected.
And NO, I definitely did not have far too many bumper stickers on it! Now, sure thing I’ve learned my lesson, but what I’m trying to say is that you need to turn that car around, make it yours.
If you’re a car enthusiast like I am, I know you’d like to express yourself straight from behind the wheel. Read on to find out what you can do with simple tools and creativity.
I have to stress that no matter what car you have, you will love to customize it. So, don’t worry about expensive tuning.
If you’re looking for a project, grab the best ideas you can find and customize your car on a budget.

1. Steering Wheel Cover
First things first, I do recommend you customize your car from inside and then out. You’ll get a better feel of what fits together if you start from the driver’s seat. Remember that no matter how cool it looks for the outsiders, you’ll be spending most of your time inside!
On this note, we can always revamp a classic like the steering wheel cover.
Feel free to go wild and add some personality, but make sure it’s convenient for driving, too!
2. Seat Covers
In my humble opinion, this is your make-or-break right here!
You could opt for leather, faux fur, or another fabric. Additionally, if you’re into DIY, you could also make your own or get them ordered from local workshops.
The best thing is, there is an option for anyone. Vintage or sporty, I can bet you’ll love it.
Are you a bit extra? This is a no-judgment space. Back in the day, my teenage dream was to have my initials embroidered on my lush seat covers. Spoiler: that never happened.
Comfort matters though, so make sure your covers match your temperature preferences, or else you might get a sweaty ride.
Another important aspect here is that everything must fit neatly. If this is a family car, you might need to pay some subtle attention to not overdo it, pal!
Otherwise, trust me, you will lose good taste — and good looks along with it.
3. Glove Compartment
This is so underrated.
You can customize your glove compartment with dividers and adjust it to your needs. A neat car is an attractive car, so this one might help with that sort of organization in the long run.
Customize your Starbies and Monster cup holder to ease your ride and avoid clutter.
This is great to think about if you’re invested in the comfort of your right-seat passenger as well.
4. Speaker System
Seriously consider switching up that sound system. Unless you go for a brand new car, the original speakers will need an upgrade.
Whether you’re into loud music, podcasts, or Audible books, this is an investment rather than a liability. It makes quality and performance your number 1’s, which is a great sign of taste.
If you’re on a budget, this might seem tricky. However, mechanics can guide you to the cheapest providers in town. Honestly, it’s definitely worth a try.
5. Floor Mats
Another cheap idea to transform the vibe is adding nice floor mats in your car.
Actually, good quality mats come in handy both for looks and convenience. You’ll keep that lovely thing cleaner and less slippery when it’s raining or snowing. Incidents do happen, whether we’re thinking slipping off your pedals or hitting your head when you get in and out.
Still think it doesn’t make such a huge difference? If you want to save a sweat, listen to the elderly and customize your mats to protect your ride.
6. Window Tint
Going for a window tint can be nice-looking, and most people are into it.
There are lots of benefits to it. It adds UV protection, reduces glare, gives you privacy, and comes with aesthetics on top of it.
If you’re on a budget, you can grab tint films for your car windows instead of having them installed. Standard options can cost you as little as $100 for the whole vehicle, while more premium options will be pricier.
It is essential you keep in mind the legal restrictions as well. Depending on your state, check how much tint you are able to go for. Search for Visible Light Transmission levels, as front windows need increased visibility.
7. Interior & Exterior Lights
If you’re driving at night, it is guaranteed you will turn heads with this one. Customize your lighting for a better look!
You can easily stick or install lights in visible places. You can play with shapes and colors, too! After all, LEDs are trendy, aren’t they? Your car can pull them off as well.
I’ve generously left you a great suggestion here. But my favorite is this one.
8. Unique Scents
Something that’s always worked for me is giving my cars unique scents. This is far too simple, can’t find an excuse not to customize!
Did you know memory happens through scents as well? We’ve been going all looks, but don’t neglect making cool memories. Other passengers will massively appreciate it as well!
If you’re not into strong scents like I am, opt for softer options that are more neutral. Perfumed vials can last up to weeks, they’re low maintenance and always cheap.
9. Aftermarket Wheels
One of the simplest and classiest ways to customize your car is to switch those car wheels and rims. It’s super easy to do if you watch a quick tutorial. It’s also relatively cheap, ranging from $10 to $60 for more premium models.
Feel free to pick your favorites from a bunch of sizes, styles, and finishes.
Going for some aftermarket wheels will be your budget-friendly alternative to full-on body kits.
Trigger warning. Mine were red.

10. Custom License Plate
We both know you’re here because you want to stand out and be unique. Some of you guys have already thought your license plate text through. That’s what I call good planning!
However, do keep in mind that you can customize a license plate design as well. I love how this is such an American staple, and you can’t find it anywhere else.
Get on the road with it and enjoy.
Customize With Intention
Before you get on with it, make sure you don’t buy or install something you will later regret. Like I said, it can be easy to overdo it, and I learned that firsthand.
Half of the process is a good plan. I’m sure you’ll get it spot on and ready to drive.
And no matter your style or budget, you can always make your car your own. You are unique, and so should your car be.
Most importantly, be intentional with your car, even if it’s just looks. Your comfort and safety always come first.
