9 Most Expensive Cars in the World!

Have you heard about the most expensive cars in the world before?

When we stop and take a look at the most expensive cars in the world, not even the 1% can sometimes scramble the money or luck it takes to be able to own one!

There are a lot of reasons why some of the most expensive cars in the world end up carrying the price tag that they do, but sometimes it is not about what is under the hood.

Sometimes it is about the materials used, the brand (or marque) that made it, and who is going to be able to purchase it.

These expensive cars are not (or marque)about who is going to drive them or how expensive it is to make an engine that is going to sustain a fast pace for hours (like for NASCAR and F1 cars), but rather about the materials since they are all in the luxury segment and bespoke trims are just a thing of the past.

We have brought you some of the most expensive cars ever made, along with all the interesting facts that make them interesting!

Sure, most car enthusiasts are never even going to be able to come close to one of these cars unless there’s a car show around, but sometimes it is interesting to see what the 1% spend their money on and how expensive the drives they keep securely parked in their high-security garages!

Spoiler alert: sometimes it’s about design, diamonds, and having the one-only car of the sort!

Hold on to your boots; these cars are extremely expensive!

2020 Bugatti Divo: $5.8 Million

Things to notice

  • Type of car: Hypercar
  • How many have been produced: 40 units
  • Where were they made: France/Italy

One thing about this very exclusive and expensive car is that not everyone got to see it, even if they may have had the money to buy it! At the Divo’s launch, only those who were already Chiron drivers and had such a car were on the invite list.

In 2018, the Bugatti Divo was revealed to the Chiron drivers and announced as the company’s very first coach-built hypercar.

This was the first Buggati hypercar that was built in this way for the 21st century, and it was a beauty to lay your eyes on.

The Divo is not that much different than the Bugatti Chiron when it comes to specifications, since they use the same quad-turbo engine (the W16), but when it comes to design and aerodynamics, they are completely different.

The Bugatti Divo was made with specific exterior design elements and special aerodynamics that make this car among some of the most special the marque has ever made, in addition to the fact that it is one of the most expensive cars out there!

Made in limited quantities, the forty units of the Bugatti Divo had even sold before they were revealed to the public, with the starting price of $5.8 million at the low end of the spectrum for how much this car went!

Despite this, this is the only official price we have seen, and, let’s be honest, it is still steep!

2021 SP Automotive Chaos Earth Edition: $6.4 Million

Things to notice

  • Type of car: Hypercar
  • How many have been produced: 100 units
  • Where were they made: Greece

SP Automotive is one of the expensive car brands that have self-proclaimed a few things, but its biggest claim to fame is that they have invented the first ultra car in the world, namely the Chaos.

Whether or not it is true or made up is hard to tell, but one thing is sure: the SP Automotive Chaos definitely lives up to the name of an ultra car, if not a hypercar as they are known today!

The top-range model, with the most impressive specifications, ends up having an impressive 3,056 hp, which comes from a 4-liter V10 engine that is turbocharged!

Obviously, you can easily get more power the more you pay, but even if you do not opt for the 3,000+ hp engine, the 2021 SP Automotive Chaos Earth Edition has an impressive 0 to 60-mile acceleration of under 2 seconds! Talk about fast!

The listed price for this car, which has only been produced in 100 units, is $6.4 million, which is also the base price. The high end of how much these cars can cost is $14.4 million for the most decked-out car!

The true question that we all ask, besides why would you pay so much for one car, is: do you even need the 3,000+ if you are not on a race track? There is only so much grip that the rear tires can handle, no matter how sticky, and the 1.9 seconds to 60 miles are bound to get your heart racing!

The fun fact is that with time, SP Automotives has gotten the 0-60 mph down to 1.55 seconds with another edition of Chaos, Gravity!

If one thing is for sure, this car is definitely aptly named, since if you are not sure of yourself while driving it, you can only leave chaos behind you!

2022 Pagani Huayra Codalunga: $7.4 Million

Things to notice

  • Type of car: Hypercar
  • How many have been produced: 5 units
  • Where were they made: Italy

Pagani is known to only make very expensive and exclusive cars, but the 2022 Huayra Codalunga has another claim to fame, as it is the final Huayra model the marque is making.

And when you take into consideration that there have only been four units made, the already eye-watering price is only going to get higher the older the cars get.

The marque has a worrying trend since its track record of coming out with final editions only for another final one to emerge shortly after. This has been the case with the Pagani Zonda, but it seems like they are committed to making this the last Huayara.

And yes, the Codalunga is the last, limited edition hurrah of the Huayra, which many fans of the model have gone to see before they got bought and forever stowed in someone’s garage.

The model is extremely interesting, as the designer, Horacio Pagani, has actually gotten inspired by the Codalunge from the Porsche 917 and paid homage to it in his design.

If you pay close attention to the detail of the Codalunga, you can see the influences from the Porche in the design.

Despite the cosmetic changes made to this last edition of the Huayara, the engine remains the same as with the previous version, a turbocharged V12, which makes this edition just as much of a hypercar as the others.

Any performance improvements when compared to previous models are due to the different car shape, which makes it more slippery, since the mechanical interior remains the same and up to 840 hp.

The $7.4 million price tag comes with more cosmetic changes than any technical or mechanical ones.

2022 Bugatti Centodieci: $9 Million

Things to notice

  • Type of car: Hypercar
  • How many have been produced: 10 units
  • Where were they made: France & Italy

Going back to Bugatti (and as they have some of the world’s most expensive cars, it is also not the last time we will see them mentioned), this exclusivist car has only been made in 10 units, but for a very special reason.

The 2022 Centodieci is actually a special Chiron edition that pays homage to the Bugatti EB 110, which has been their ’90s prime model

Not to mention, the name also hints at the fact that this special Chiron design is a celebration of the marque’s 110th birthday, as the name is Italian for 110!

The two homages are spectacularly blended together in this stunning hypercar that lives up to its name.

The Centodieci takes after the Chiron when it comes to the monstrous engine since they both run on the quad-turbocharged W16, and they also share the same platform. However, the outside design elements are inspired by the EB 110.

The most notable design elements include the five round intakes that are shaped like diamonds. the narrow headlights that give a more aggressive look due to the sharp grooves and the tiny horseshoe radiator griddles!

With only 10 examples made and a high price tag, the Centodieci has an exclusive owner list that has yet to be shared with the world.

2022 Bugatti Chiron Profilée: $10.86 Million

Things to notice

  • Type of car: Hypercar
  • How many have been produced: 1 unit
  • Where were they made: France & Italy

Speaking of Bugatti’s propensity for making exclusive cars, the 2022 Bugatti Chiron Profilée has only been made once, and it follows the marque’s comprehensive customization program.

While the marque generally ensures that everyone who buys one of their cars can end up customizing it to their own preference, this is probably one of the most customized and exclusive cars that Bugatti has ever made!

Based on the Chiron Sport, the Profilée can easily reach 1,580 hp due to the W16 quad-turbo and its sleek design.

What is new for the Profilée that is not there on the Chiron Sport are the improved aerodynamics, which makes the car an even smoother drive, and the air-cooling exterior designs.

The Profilée is equipped with a handmade, unique interior, and it also boasts 15% shorter transmission rates and a 10% stiffer suspension system that makes it miles ahead of the model it is based on.

Not to mention, Bugatti compares the Profilée with the Chiron Pur Sport, noting that it is way more luxurious and “less radical”!

Besides its steep price and univalence on the market, the Bugatti Chiron Profilée also made history on its auction day in February 2023 in Paris.

The car was sold for the huge sum of €9,792,500 (which is the equivalent of $10.86 million) and became the most valuable car ever sold during an auction.

2019 Bugatti La Voiture Noire: $12.8 Million

Things to notice

  • Type of car: Hypercar
  • How many have been produced: 1 unit
  • Where were they made: France & Italy

Despite the Profilée making history with its auction price, it is not the most expensive car Bugatti has ever made. Bugatti La Voiture Noire is another one-unit luxury hypercar made by the marque that is known to be a one-off masterpiece!

When it comes to Bugatti, they are one of the famous marques that have multiple contestants for the world’s most expensive car, and we have already seen some of them. Yet, Bugatti La Voiture Noire is their most expensive one by far!

Built to commemorate the Bugatti racing heritage, La Voiture Noire (which translates to the Black Car) is a homage to the classic Bugatti Type 57SC, first driven in races by Jean Bugatti.

The car debuted in 2019 with a jaw-dropping price of $12.8 million. The catch is that this price is without any of the taxes associated with such a purchase!

If you are a connoisseur of the marque, you may be able to spot when simply looking at La Voiture Noire that it bears a close resemblance to the Chiron. The chassis, a large chunk of the bodywork, and the drivetrain are all similar.

In reality, despite the design and the color, the car is not that different from the much cheaper Chiron. The worst is that the engine remains unchanged (the W16 8-liter one), and it only goes up to 1,500 hp.

While for some, his one-of-a-kind car does not seem that impressive mechanically, owning it is enough to justify the price tag, even if it is not different from the Chiron.

If Bugatti as a marque has intrigued you and you want to know more about its history and story, make sure you check out this detailed look into the brand!

2017 Rolls-Royce Sweptail: $13 Million

Things to notice

  • Type of car: Grand Tourer, luxury coach built
  • How many have been produced: 1 unit
  • Where were they made: Great Britain

Some of the world’s most expensive cars have always been Rolls-Royces. When you take into consideration that it is the marque that the royal family in the UK uses, it makes sense why some of their cars are that expensive.

However, some of the most expensive Rolls-Royces are not owned or used by the entire family, and this is just one of them!

Beating the price tag of the La Voiture Noire, the Sweptail is a surprising two-seater car from the brand. The bank-breaking luxury vehicle has been inspired by yachts in its design, and it was once the world’s most expensive car!

The Sweptail debuted back in 2017, and it was then the most expensive new car one could purchase. And when you take a look at the $13 million price tag, we can all see why.

Since it has been overtaken by some other cars (more on them soon), it still stands that this hand-built vehicle is an engineering masterpiece, and it deserves to be among the most expensive and impressive cars.

The Rolls-Royce Sweptail boasts an impressive V12 engine that can put out up to 453 hp and has impressive acceleration that can go from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.6 seconds and then soon reach its top speed of 155mph!

Given the size of the car, it is impressive, and let’s be honest, it is a fast enough car without having to reach the level of thousands of horsepower!

2021 Rolls-Royce Boat Tail: $28 Million

Things to notice

  • Type of car: Grand Tourer, luxury coach built
  • How many have been produced: 2 units
  • Where were they made: Great Britain

If you have thought that the yacht-inspired Sweptail has been expensive, then the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail more than doubles the previous entry from this marque.

Back in the day, when the marque first started to create cars, Henry Rolls and Charles Royce were the brilliant minds behind the finest motor cars, especially in England. However, more than a century later, the marque has done its best to try to achieve the best car ever, and this is how the 2021 Boat Tail was born!

Back when it launched in 2021, the Boat Tail was the year’s most expensive car, with the asking price being $28 million. This is a price tag that not many marques can even start to think about asking, but it comes as no surprise that Rolls-Royce is the one to achieve such a high price tag.

And if we were asking ourselves if the Bugatti cars are worth those high price tags, is the Boat Tail worth it too?

This exquisite car is definitely one for collectors who are after exclusivity. The marque only made a total of 2 units, and they go about justifying the price tag since the car is entirely handmade, with the most luxurious body the marque has ever designed, along with an impressively elegant design that takes after the classic yachts of the 1920s.

This is one of those cars that you cannot trade for another model. The inside is made out of wood and leather, and while this aspect definitely weighs down on the car, it does little to impart the speed and way it works.

Given the size, one would think that it would not be that fast; however, the Boat Tail can reach 60 mph in about 5.8 seconds due to the turbocharged V12 engine. While not a hypercar, it is still a very well-oiled vehicle, which is anything but slow!

These extremely expensive cars are definitely owned by someone, but it is still unclear who they are. A huge rumor going around is that Jay Z and Beyonce have gotten their hands on one, and if it is true, we definitely hope they enjoy this masterpiece!

2024 Rolls-Royce Droptail: $30+ Million

Things to notice

  • Type of car: Grand Tourer, luxury coach built
  • How many have been produced: 4 units
  • Where were they made: Great Britain

Yes, the Boat Tail is no longer the world’s most expensive car today, but it is no surprise that the only marque that could updo that masterpiece both in craftsmanship and in price tag is the same one that came with the previous most expensive car in the world.

What makes it impressive is that the Rolls-Royce Droptail came only two years after the Boat Tail came to the market, and many are saying that Rolls-Royce has definitely upstaged themselves with this new car.

The English ultra-luxury automaker came out at the end of 2023 with its most expensive car and definitely the most expensive coach built in its series. There are four units to be made, with two of them having already finished production in December 2023 and being appropriately named La Rose Noire and Amethyst.

The two Rolls-Royce Droptails are reported by Bloomberg to have cost more than $30 million, and the owners of these cars are unknown.

Rolls-Royce did not change the engine from the Boat Tail, keeping the same 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, but they made sure to add an extra 30 hp to the Droptail. The engine can bring the car up to 593 hp, and despite the weight of the two-seater, it reaches 60 mph in 4.9 seconds.

One thing is for sure, these cars are definitely impressive, even if they are barely even affordable by the world’s 1%!

These are some of the most expensive cars in the world, and only the top 1% are going to ever be able to have one (if there are enough units made in the first place). However, other expensive cars are more down to earth, and you have seen them used in franchises like Fast and Furious. If you are curious about which cars were used and how expensive they are, make sure you check out this article!

  1. Outrageous! There are so many who have old beaten up clunkers that have to get them to work or Dr’s appointments, which by the way, constantly need repairs and costing up to $1000.00s due to high labor charges, thereby making it impossible to buy even a relatively decent USED car. Why not use some of the millions of dollars for these expensive “toys” to contribute to those of us living below the poverty level for a decently working car (with heat & air conditioning)
