1. Mitsubishi Mirage — 39 mpg

If you’re into fuel-efficient cars that are tiny enough to squeeze even in the most terrible traffic, you’re going to fall in love with the Mitsubishi Mirage. When I got my driver’s license, my parents bought me a red-burgundy Mitsubishi Space Star, similar in looks to the one we’re talking about today.

It was really tiny (I didn’t name it Ladybug just for the color), perfect for the city, and the best part was that a full tank lasted me up to a week. And before you ask, yes, I used to drive around a lot because I wanted to practice my skills.

The new Mitsubishi Mirage is rather similar to my first vehicle, and while I have a different relationship with this range, I must tell you the cold truth. It’s a fuel-efficient car but not very powerful or cozy for long road trips. Many describe it as budget-oriented, and the interior styling isn’t out-of-this-world either.

But again, if you want to save money, it’s the perfect choice. What I love most is its budget-friendly sub-$20,000 price tag. Plus, its small but mighty 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine delivers an impressive 39 mpg combined, according to experts.

Other than that, it has a wonderful warranty—five years or 60,000 miles. Sadly, the company announced it’s discontinuing the Mirage after the 2024 model year. But hey, if you’ve got your eye on this fuel-efficient car, dealerships still have stock as of January 2025.

2. Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Blue — 38 mpg

Another fuel-efficient car that will elevate your driving experience is the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Blue. The vehicle’s powertrains will remain the same in 2025. This model has a 1.6-liter hybrid drivetrain that produces 231 horsepower overall, so it will take you from point A to point B in minutes.

There is also a plug-in hybrid option, but it’s not included in today’s article because we only consider cars that don’t need independent electric charging. Experts estimate that the Tucson Hybrid Blue will get 38 mpg overall, which is fantastic if you want to save money at the pump.

Besides fuel efficiency, this Hyundai baby will also impress you with its turbocharged GDI 4-cylinder hybrid engine, and the interior doesn’t disappoint either. Built with the latest technologies to ensure safety, comfort, and viability, this automobile knows how to hit the spot!

The Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid is a multipurpose, stunning, fuel-efficient car that combines usefulness with remarkable efficiency. With a combined fuel economy of 42 mpg, this hybrid is ideal for drivers who want to save money at the pump and reduce their carbon footprint without compromising comfort or functionality.

This SUV will impress you with its 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, electric motors, smooth CVT transmission, and Toyota’s AWD system. Plus, the brand’s standard safety package, modern technology, and generous cargo space only enhance the package.

While some people complained that the engine was noisy during higher-speed driving, we can’t deny that this vehicle is a great option for those who want an environmentally friendly crossover without going over budget. Scheduling a test drive is always a smart move to truly experience the good and the bad and see if this car is the right fit for you!

4. Toyota Crown Signia — 38 mpg

It looks like Toyota is all about fuel-efficient cars lately, and we’re here for that! The Crown has long been a favorite in Japan, and now Americans can finally get their hands on the latest iteration of this magnificent vehicle too.

You can get it as a sedan or an SUV, with the SUV variant known as the Crown Signia. Powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and Toyota’s hybrid technology, it delivers an impressive 38 mpg while offering the confidence of standard AWD. Trust me, this one won’t disappoint!

This hybrid baby can easily stand out in the congested SUV market, thanks to its sleek looks, luxurious interior, and cutting-edge technological features. Designed for comfort, safety, and confidence on the road, the Toyota Crown Signia has a roomy cabin, an easy-to-use infotainment system, and the brand’s popular Safety Sense package.

Sophisticated yet practical, this fuel-efficient car is made to last!

The stunning NX 350h is a perfect example of this, impressing drivers with its brilliant 39 mpg combined, as the EPA says.

It has a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder hybrid drivetrain that generates 240 horsepower and provides a smooth and elegant driving experience. You don’t need to worry about driving this vehicle in extreme weather because it was built to perform incredibly in all weather conditions. That’s thanks to its standard all-wheel drive, which improves traction and makes you feel confident no matter what.
