5. 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
Every car has advantages and disadvantages, and this Mitsubishi is no exception.
The seats are large. Furthermore, it has outstanding fuel efficiency, which helps lower your gas pump costs. But this is still one of the cars you should never buy secondhand.
Unfortunately, there is a vast list of negative things that outweigh these good parts. The Eclipse Cross seems burdened at high speeds and has a loud engine.
Compared to other SUVs in its class, it has a comparatively tiny cargo compartment with significantly less space for your belongings.
This SUV’s infotainment system might be difficult to use since it lacks knobs.
Even more, this vehicle has some of the lowest scores for predicted reliability. This doesn’t make it the safest car out there, and this is why you should not buy it.

What about American made cars…
They are the worse among the worse…Japanese cars are among the best and Korean cars.Korean cars are good because they got Japanize engines…
That’s not true at all – right here / as stated from others – Nissan and Kia’s lead the charge….. down the hill !
Korean cars do not have Japanese engines, they have Korean engines – Hyundai and Kia make their own. There is an American car on this list (the Dodge) and there are plenty of bad American cars as well. Jeeps have bad reliability histories as do some Chevys. These are the worst, not the only bad ones.
I’ve owned both American and Japanese made vehicles. At times they all have their issues. Had a 1972 Dodge Monaco that had 500,000 miles plus when it was hit by a cement truck.
I agree. I will NEVER buy another American car
Hmmm don’t trust mechanics, Trust your biasis
I have worked on cars for about 65 years. Over 30 years of that was operating a licensed repair business. To say that American cars are the worst of the worst is the result of someone who watches too many foreign car commercials on TV and believes everything. Good thing Jim Jones didn’t do TV commercials.
There is no replacing American made muscle cars of specific time-frames imo..and the electric trap they’ve pulled out of their as*@s will keep the negative opinions going and going
I agree UYnons workers are more mon for less work and it shows in there work
I agree Unions made cars care more for mon that quality
Well, I’d agree about the Japan auto engines being well made (many here in the US with Japanese parts). However, how about the latest engines in the Toyota Tundra trucks having metal shavings in the engine blocks due to poor quality control? Hyundai had the same problems with their four-cylinder engines.
The Japanese seem to be more tight-lipped about their ‘problems’. The Takata airbags used in both American and other manufacturers’ vehicles debacle is a story for another day.
According to recent recalls, some Toyota Tundra trucks, specifically from the 2022 and 2023 model years, have been found to have metal shavings in their engine blocks due to potential manufacturing issues where machining debris was not fully cleaned out during production, which can lead to engine damage and failure if left unaddressed; Toyota has issued a recall to replace affected engines in these vehicles.
IDIOT!!
Not true … there are American made cars on the list and Korean cars do not have Japanese Engines.
I have a 2012 Lincoln Town Car Executive with over 300,000 miles original engine and transmission best car I ever owned, previous cars 2004 Acura MDX, 2012 Honda Pilot, 2007 Toyota Camry, 2012 Honda Civic, 2008 BMW 328 Sedan, 2017 Toyota Sienna XLE.
In your dreams about American cars being the worst you better do better research. There are ford cars and dome others that are better and just as good as foreign. PopSigned a retired mechanic
I find it interesting Emmanuel that there are two Toyotas, two Mitsubishi’s, as well as one Nissan vehicle in this list. There was one Dodge vehicle, but no Chevrolet vehicles or Ford vehicles on this list at all. It seems to me that American vehicles are in the lead for this list. Have a great day!
I think this is just a common to get you buy from their stock!
It looks like 2020 was a crummy year all the way around. The most important thing….oil changes…they’re the life of your engine. Keep your oil clean…
I have owned mainly japanese cars and they have always been extremely reliable. All my nissans and infiniti lasted well over 13 years and 200,000 miles. Only had to change the oil and brake pads and tires, very little maintenance was needed.
Ýour reviews are vague at best and focused on cosmetic issues with interiors. Also lacing in real data as to mpgs, drive train, warranties, safety, etc. A definite amateur effort.
This article assumes someone wants a 2020 vehicle. The 2015 Chevy Spark I bought from Hertz auto sales is the best all around car I’ve ever had. Bought it at 35,000 miles and now have 172,000 on it.
I guess manufacturers are discontinuing these small cars because these days almost every family unit has one or more blubbery whales that just won’t fit.
You are deceptive. Where are the cars? All I get is ads.
Please tell what cars to avoid buying
America’s own Ford BUILT the very first car, you idiot! Besides, have you read the article?? All, except ONE are foreign made. So, if you prefer other than America built car, all I have to say is “Remember the Yugo”
My 2002 Kia Sedona has lasted for 230,000 miles and still going. I use it for driving vacations. Gets 25 mpg at 70 mph. Has seen the average amount of maintenance thru the years. The older Kias I believe will last longer than the newer ones. To many bells and whistles to go wrong on the newer ones.
I sincerely want to show appreciation for this guidance
My kid has one. They ARE TERRIBLE with fuel mileage.
You forgot how much it costs to repair. That alone is a Big NO to me.
I bought a Frontier Turbo off the showroom floor. It was great until it wasn’t. When the “Turbo” went out I couldn’t just purchase the part to fix it myself. I had to purchase the WHOLE turbocharger! If I had known that in the begining I’d never have gotten it. Yeah, if you took it to the dealer to fix you still had to buy the whole turbocharge instead of just the bad part. Ridi!
I can say this, I’ve had 2 used Hyundai Elantra’s (2012 Touring and 2016 GT). The Touring had about 35,000 when I bought it, never had any major issues with the car. I “totaled” it when I hit a pick up truck that ran a red light, I was not harmed, all the protective features did just that, protected me. I then found the 2016 GT back in 2020 with 103,000+ miles. This one had to have the engine replaced, it was still under warranty thankfully. I now have over 150,000+ miles and it’s still going strong. I love the mileage and the ride is really good for a small car. My next car will be another “used” Hyundai, either another Elantra or perhaps a Sonata.
American cars are #1, foreign are for inbred turncoats.
The list should’ve specified 2005 Or Automatic Mini Coopers because I loved my Standard 2021 Mini Cooper Convertible from February 2023 thru November 2024. It became a total loss after some deer ran through the driver side. However, I’m about to purchase the same year and model December 2024.
I have a 2012 Hyandi Vera Cruz. Just bought it used in October. Always garage kept. The owner took very good care of the car. Hopefully I will have it for a while. It has 166,000 miles on it.
most of the reasoning for not buying, subjective. Waste of my time reading this article.
Love my Mini Cooper even though they are expensive to fix. I keep a warranty on it just in case. Well worth it. The only car I will own. Its a 2017 with 57,000 miles. I have not had any issues.
There are no American made cars! The last one was a Tucker
Why pay for this carfax is free

Car 1 in your “9 Used Cars You Should Stay Away From in 2024” article isn’t identified, as the remaining 9 are.
English Fords are very good–as always my FOR ESCORT ZX2 HAS 200.000 + AND STILL DOES EVERYTHING WELL AS IT DID 17 YEARS AGO WHEN NEW!
Stupid fucking ads. Wtf!
I have a 2021 Tundra, yes the gas mileage is not as good as the ford F-150 or Chevy pick ups but I’ll pay for a bit more gas than repair bills . Reliability is a whole lot more important!!
Best American cars to buy?
