2006 BMW M5 by Hamann Motorsport

Elon Musk is known for his impressive wealth and his entrepreneurial spirit, but he is also recognized as one of the most eccentric people in the world. As you would expect, he has many electric cars in his garage but also some unconventional vehicles, exactly like this BMW.

He is a fan of SUVs, but this sports sedan took his heart, and he needed to get one. This car was already a monster in its original form, but after HAMANN was allowed to modify it, this car became a legend that wasn’t found in any mold.

This vehicle was built for an extreme driving experience, and this is why the speed limiter was removed. The 2006 BMW M5 can now freely use all of its 600 horsepower, reaching top speeds of 200 mph!

It’s said that this is the car that inspired Elon Musk to implement the notorious “Ludicrous Mode.” on Teslas. This is a very unique BMW model, and we can totally understand why it’s such an inspiration for Musk.

1967 Jaguar E-Type Roadster

Elon Musk already stated in interviews that he’s always been fascinated by Jaguars, especially the Jaguar E-Type. He said that it all started when he was 17 years old and stumbled upon one in a car magazine. Since then, Musk fell in love with the iconic British Roadster and promised himself that he would own one someday.

Now he made this dream come true, and he bought a 1967 model featuring the upgraded 4.2-liter XK inline-six engine. This engine replaced the classic 3.8-liter XK version in October 1964, though it still produced the same 265 horsepower. However, the torque saw an improvement, rising from 240 lb-ft to 283 lb-ft, adding to its overall power.

Funny enough, right after he got the car from the dealer, it broke down on the way home. This might sound like a disaster, but he dealt with it. Even if the car kept breaking down from time to time, Elon Musk said that this is the price he has to pay in order to drive the “most beautiful car in the world.”

1976 Lotus Esprit (“Wet Nellie”)

This is a car that made history because it is known as the car that transformed into a submarine just by pressing one button. This is not reality, but it happened in the James Bond film “The Spy Who Loved Me,” and since then people have associated this car with water.

The 1976 Lotus Esprit was used as an underwater prop in the movie, but in real life, it has become one of the most wanted cars, especially among rich people who wanted to add something weird to their collection. Elon Musk is definitely one of these folks, and it is easy to see why he bought this car.

Musk took part in an auction in 2013, and this is how he entered into the possession of this fascinating vehicle. It mesmerized him during his childhood, and now it was in his garage. He had big plans with this care and promised to transform it into an ultra-technologized beast.

We don’t know exactly what happened to the vehicle, but we know for sure that Musk drew design inspiration from the 1976 Lotus Esprit for the iconic new model we now know as the Cybertruck.

1920 Ford Model T

As you can see, Elon Musk loves vintage cars, and this one is another one he has in his collection. What is little known about this car is that he didn’t pay for it because this was a present a dear friend of Musk gifted to him.

This Ford model is also known as the “Tin Lizzie,” and it is an important piece in automotive history. The 1920 Ford Model T was the first car in the world to be mass-produced using an assembly line, and Henry Ford, its creator, was a visionary who revolutionized the car industry in the same way Elon Musk is today.

Even if he is a disruptor who wants to bring new things into the world, Musk’s love for classic cars shows us that he still appreciates history, and this plays a big role in how he approaches his car revolution.

1997 McLaren F1

This car holds a special place in the heart of Elon Musk and is a big landmark in his car enthusiast life. The 1997 McLaren F1 is no longer part of his collection, but we need to list this car here because it is a big part of his history.

This is a very expensive car, and at that time the $1 million price tag was a lot, even for Elon Musk. But he managed to get this silver supercar. He was so happy about this car that he even let the TV crew from CNN film the whole moment. You can find it online on YouTube.

Musk was excited to drive the F1, but his reckless driving led to a high-speed crash in 2000, leaving the car severely damaged. Since the vehicle wasn’t insured, Musk had to cover the repair expenses out of his own pocket.

He managed to repair the car, but in the end, he sold it for profit in 2007. But despite this fact, the 1997 McLaren F1 is a legendary car that inspired Elon Musk.

1978 BMW 320i

This BMW is no longer in his possession, but it was a great and important car in his early years. He bought this car second-hand in 1994, and one of the features that made this car so special was the fact that this was one of the first BMW cars to feature fuel injection.

It’s the debut model of the BMW 3 Series and it has a 2.0-liter inline-four engine producing 110 hp. It was Musk’s first car, and we consider it a good start for his epic car collection.

During his time at Zip2, Musk used the BMW as a company vehicle for running daily errands. Unfortunately, Musk decided to sell the car after one day when one of the wheels detached while an intern was driving it.

What do you think of his car collection? Do you find it impressive? Tell us more in the comments!
